Formwork

Bishop Construction provides expert formwork services across the UK — precision-built moulds for concrete frames, basements, and architectural structures.

Formwork

At Bishop Construction, we specialise in delivering precision-built formwork solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential concrete structures. From large-scale concrete frames to intricate architectural features, our experienced team constructs temporary moulds that ensure accuracy, strength, and quality in every pour.
We typically work to drawings provided by clients but can offer technical advice at the design stage to help improve constructability and performance outcomes.

What Is Formwork?

Formwork refers to the process of creating a temporary mould into which concrete is poured and shaped. Traditional formwork is typically constructed from timber, but modern projects often utilise steel, aluminium, or glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP) for enhanced durability and reusability.

The purpose of formwork is to maintain the desired shape of the concrete until it hardens sufficiently to support itself. Once cured, the formwork is removed, leaving behind a finished surface with precise dimensions and alignment. The choice of material and method depends on the structure’s complexity, finish requirements, and budget.

Our Expertise in Concrete Formwork Construction

Our engineers and site operatives have extensive experience in reinforced concrete construction across a wide range of sectors. We implement formwork systems that support structural integrity, construction efficiency, and a high-quality surface finish.
By collaborating closely with architects, structural engineers, and main contractors, we ensure every detail — from layout and load calculations to tie spacing and striking times — aligns perfectly with project drawings and specifications.

Sustainability and Innovation

Bishop Construction is committed to sustainable construction. We promote the use of recyclable and modular formwork materials, low-carbon concrete solutions, and efficient systems that reduce waste. Our approach ensures environmental responsibility without compromising safety, performance, or quality — supporting the UK’s transition to more sustainable construction practices.

Types of Formwork We Provide

At Bishop Construction, we supply and install a full range of formwork systems to suit all project types and structural requirements:

Traditional Timber Formwork

Ideal for bespoke or smaller projects where flexibility is key, timber formwork allows for detailed shaping and custom finishes. It remains a cost-effective solution for low-volume or architectural concrete work.

Steel Formwork

Perfect for repetitive use and high-precision projects, steel formwork offers excellent strength, reusability, and a smooth surface finish. It’s often used for concrete frames, retaining walls, and large infrastructure works.

Aluminium Formwork

Lightweight yet robust, aluminium systems speed up installation times and reduce labour requirements. They are particularly suitable for high-rise buildings and repetitive floor layouts

Plastic and GFRP Formwork

Modern plastic and glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP) formwork solutions provide excellent resistance to moisture and corrosion, making them ideal for waterproof basements and environments with challenging site conditions.

Slip and Jump Formwork

For high-rise or continuous vertical structures such as lift shafts, cores, and towers, slipform and jumpform systems enable continuous or staged concrete pouring, improving speed, consistency, and safety on site.
